How long are your sessions and how frequent?

50 mins. Frequency is primarily up to you, but weekly is recommended for the first month.

3

Do you have to choose online or in person?

Clients do not have to commit to one or other, but my availability is also a factor in whether an in-person session can be offered to online clients. Clients can switch to online, whether planned or last-minute. At this time, my evening availability is exclusively online.

4

Will I be charged if I miss a session without giving prior notice?

Yes. I request 48 hours cancellation notice or as much notice as possible. This allows me to open up a spot for other clients. The full fee will be charged if you do not give 24 hours notice.

5

What are some ways to pay?

Preferred payment is by e-transfer. Credit card also available. Direct billing is available with some extended health insurance providers, and receipts will be provided. Please inquire further.

Indigenous clients: I am working on registering with NIHB so that claims can be processed with Express Scripts.

Refugee claimants and Blue Cross Medavie members: direct billing available. Referral from doctor is required for refugee claimants in the IFHP. For information on the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), see the federal government website here.

6

Will my insurance cover you?

I hope so! I don't know about individual coverage. Insurance companies have different plans for group insurance. They sometimes cover psychotherapists, and sometimes they don't. Please look at your plan to see if my services are covered and for how many sessions.

What is a Registered Psychotherapist?

According to the Psychotherapy Act (2007), the "practice of psychotherapy is the assessment and treatment of cognitive, emotional or behavioural disturbances by psychotherapeutic means, delivered through a therapeutic relationship based primarily on verbal or non-verbal communication." The term "psychotherapy" is used interchangeably with "counselling." A Registered Psychotherapist has had their credentials and qualifying hours assessed by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). We are not qualified to give diagnoses. A psychologist (advanced training in psychology) can assess and diagnose - for example, if you want to find out if you have ADHD. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor with a specialization in mental health. They can treat through therapy and medication, and can of course diagnose. Social workers and nurses with advanced training can also provide psychotherapy but belong to different professional colleges.
